SUSTAINABILITY
SUSTAINABILITY
The College of Intensive Care Medicine of Australia & New Zealand (CICM) is committed to supporting sustainability practices and reducing the impact of events on the environment.
Every little change we make is a step in the right direction. We encourage all attendees, sponsors, exhibitors and suppliers to also consider environmentally friendly options when attending.
Our actions to reduce our event carbon footprint include:
Our Sustainable Practices
Event Materials
Over the past couple of years, we have replaced the printed conference handbook, printed program and pocket program with an attendee app with the bonus of updates reflected in real-time. You will be able to access the floorplan, speaker bios, sponsor & exhibitor information and other information about the ASM.
CICM now encourage exhibitors to limit any printed handouts if necessary and provide giveaways that are not single-use items.
Name Badge and Lanyard
We encourage all attendees to recycle their name badge and lanyard by dropping them into the registration desk on departure. We have removed plastic pockets with the name badges.
We remind attendees to utilise the same name badge for the duration of the conference to avoid re-printing.
Sourcing Local and Ethical Suppliers
CICM has prioritised suppliers that source food and materials locally to support the community and reduce transportation emissions.
- Venue Host – gold coast convention & exhibition centre
- Exhibition Provider – exponet Exhibitions & Events
Carbon Offsetting for flights
CICM has made a commitment to reduce the carbon footprint of our flights by offsetting carbon emissions when booking flights.

Sustainability Leadership
The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) is an industry leader in environmental innovation. GCCEC embraces the governing principles of sustainable development including stewardship, inclusivity, integrity and transparency.
In 2018, GCCEC became ‘EarthCheck Platinum’ certified in recognition of its commitment to operating at the world’s highest environmental standard. EarthCheck is the world’s pre-eminent environmental management program for the travel and tourism sectors. GCCEC submits annual data to EarthCheck to benchmark their activities against the certifier’s key performance areas.
Since the Centre’s opening in 2004, implementation of a Sustainability Policy and Environmental Management Plan has ensured the continuous integration of environmental and social sustainability into strategy, planning and business operations. At every step the Centre encourages partnerships with clients that promote sustainability best practices.
Diversity and Inclusion
- CICM aims to create a welcoming and equitable environment for all attendees.
