Curtis McGrath

Curtis McGrath OAM is a remarkable figure whose journey from Australian Army combat engineer to Paralympic champion serves as an inspiring testament to resilience, determination, and the power of the human spirit. Whilst serving in Afghanistan in 2012, Curtis stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED), resulting in the loss of both his legs. Undeterred by this devastating event, he began his journey in adaptive sports. On debut he won gold in the sprint kayak at the Rio Paralympics and a further 2 gold medals at the Tokyo Paralympics. He is Co-Captain of the Paris 2024 Australian Paralympic team and has 12 world championship titles. Off the water Curtis is a motivational speaker, sharing his story of overcoming adversity and using his platform to inspire others facing similar challenges. He is a Director at Deloitte and a Paralympic Advisor. Curtis is a passionate advocate for veterans and people with disabilities, sitting on the Board of Directors for Paralympics Australia, Chair of the Paddle Australia Athletes Commission and is an Ambassador for the Invictus Games.
