Dr Fiona Reilly

Dr Fiona Reilly is a writer and Emergency Physician at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, and collaborator in paediatric emergency medicine initiatives in China and Pakistan. She has a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and is currently completing a PhD in Creative Non-fiction and Narrative Medicine, working on a collection of essays about her work in paediatric emergency medicine. She completed the CPA in Narrative Medicine at Columbia University in 2022. As a narrative medicine practitioner in her day-to-day work in Emergency, Fiona believes it is essential that health professionals hone their skills in close listening, empathy, and reflection to engage meaningfully with their patients, and bring joy and purpose to their work. Fiona is also a lecturer at the University of Melbourne, teaching Australia's first Narrative Medicine programme of study for medical students. She is passionate about bringing out the creativity, compassion, curiosity and humour in her students, to help them be the best doctors possible.
