Dr Martha Druery (PhD) – Director, Lumos Trauma Institute Dr Martha Druery previously worked as a ‘Social Work Specialist’ in Intensive Care and Burns across adult and paediatric hospital settings from 1996 to 2013. She has led a group private practice in Brisbane for the last 9 years, focused on psychotherapy for adjustment to traumatic injury and bereavement, clinical supervision, coaching and therapy for trauma clinicians. Martha delivers the ‘Induction Program for Humanised Healthcare’, training health practitioners in Trauma-Informed Care, emotion-handling skills to respond to grief, loss and distress and building trauma resilience at work. She was conferred her PhD in Health-Related Quality of Life outcomes post-burns in hospitalised adults in 2020 from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Queensland. Her post-doctoral work at the UQ Centre of Clinical Research, in partnership with the Jamieson Trauma Institute, is exploring post-burn PTSD, depression, return to work and community integration. She is dedicated to resourcing the health care workforce to invest in their own wellbeing as a central pillar to optimising patient outcomes from a foundation of skilled compassion. Martha brings her business motto of “doing heavy work, lightly” to her presentation style, seeking to inspire, enliven and entertain whilst exploring the deepest of themes; trauma, loss, human suffering, resilience, hope and triumph.
