Together Outback: Hearing the Outback Voices in Healthcare – Alice Springs 19-21 June 2024

“Together Outback: Hearing the Outback Voices in Healthcare” is a unique conference looking at the challenges of critical care in the rural and remote setting. The need to adapt to the environment, the resources and our patients. How adaption drives the need for innovation and advocacy to build strong critical care in remote Australia.

Get ready to be inspired as renowned journalist and Indigenous affairs expert, Stan Grant, takes the stage to share his unique insights on healthcare disparities and   the importance of hearing marginalized voices. With his thought-provoking perspectives, Stan Grant will challenge the audience to think critically about the current state of healthcare and its impact on First Nation communities.

But that’s not all.  “Together Outback” goes beyond one speaker, providing a platform for numerous   respected doctors and healthcare professionals to share their experiences and expertise. These esteemed individuals will shed light on the challenges faced by   clinicians delivering critical care in regional and remote Australia, as well as the unique challenges faced by Indigenous communities, and discuss innovative  approaches to bridging the healthcare gaps.

This event is a must-attend for anyone in the healthcare industry who wants to gain a deeper understanding of the issues   faced by First Nation Peoples. The insights shared by the speakers will provide valuable knowledge and tools that can be applied to improve health care practices.

Through a professional and compelling tone, this event aims to raise awareness and spark meaningful discussions about  healthcare inequalities. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with like-minded professionals, exchange ideas, and contribute to the ongoing dialogue on improving healthcare for all.

Prepare to be captivated by the stories, ideas, and solutions presented at “Together Outback: Hearing the Voices in Healthcare.” By attending, you’ll be part of a transformative event that will leave a lasting impact on your understanding of healthcare disparities and the importance of inclusivity in the field. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to be part of the conversation.

The CICM Mentoring Program Workshop*
Wednesday, 19th June 2024 from 10:00 to 14:00
*This pre-conference workshop is part of a project that has received grant funding under the Australian Government’s Flexible Approach to Training in Expanded Settings (FATES) Program.

Join us for this special opportunity to network with your CICM Mentoring Program colleagues and hear from inspiring leaders from beyond our clinical space. Hone your self-reflection, communication and feedback literacy skills as they apply to the mentoring partnership.

The program provides support to mentors and mentees via structure and tailored learning resources, for a CICM specific mentoring experience.

At this stage, we are undertaking The Rural Trainee Mentoring Project as a pilot for the CICM Mentoring Program. This pilot has been funded by a Commonwealth Government of Australia FATES (Flexible Approach to Training in Expanded Settings) grant and continues to recruit a Network of FCICM Mentors from Australian and New Zealand metropolitan, rural and regional places to act as mentors to CICM trainees undergoing rural placements in Australia in 2024.

Who is eligible to attend this workshop*?

  • All CICM Trainees who are undertaking a CICM accredited rural term in Australia at any time during 2024 are eligible to participate in the CICM Mentoring Program pilot and are invited to attend this CICM Mentoring Program workshop.
  • This workshop is open to all CICM Fellows who are either part of or wish to join our CICM Network of Mentors.

On registering for this workshop, if you are not a member of the Network of Mentors or are an eligible CICM Trainee who is yet to apply for the project, an application form and agreement will be forwarded to you for completion.

Kanyini and Whanaungatanga Bursary

The College of Intensive Care Medicine recognises the inequities that Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, Māori, and Pasifika People experience in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. To increase the number of Indigenous trainees who enter the College training program, and to support these trainees in their Fellowship, the Kanyini and Whanaungatanga Bursary was created.

This funding is available to Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, Māori and Pasifika trainees which can be used for anything that helps with their CICM training. The fund relies on generous donations from existing Fellows and stakeholders, and we would greatly appreciate your support in growing the number of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, Māori, and Pasifika Fellows. “
